Lunar Lunacy

Daily Draw: Druidcraft Tarot ~ Moon

Web search for crustation returns a spelling correction of  crustacean and definition, diverse arthropod taxon. Above my pay grade I fear. Forcing the search to crustation I'm presented with: microscopic bugs that live in hair, skin and poo; a trip hop band, copper carbonate, and last but also first, given in Latin, crustatus.

All that small foray into mental lunacy is said to say, my favorite card in all decks, and always interesting how the artist presents the pillars, the pack, and the crustation. Next full moon August 7, an auspicious night to howl.

Hidden In Plain Sight

Daily Draw: Druidcraft Tarot ~ High Priestess

Knowledge that is neither hidden nor shown.

The Waite tarot, introduced in 1910, with its pictorial minors, is a classic example of hidden but shown symbolism. The Greek cross  offers the four elements, the four directions, and the four winds.

The moon at her feet can symbolize lunacy or illumination . The scroll, the letters, the crown, the pillars, the pomegranates, the colors...

I'm reminded by this card everything or nothing is what it seems, hence knowledge both hidden and in the open.

Magic Seeds

Daily Draw: Druidcraft Tarot ~ Magician

By the time you get to the head of the head of the head of the line, I wonder if reviewing the particles and articles of the beginning may be in order.

I'm reminded by this card by the time we get to the head of our various lines, we've most likely changed directions several times. Nothing wrong with that, it is the nature of growth. But those tiny beginnings deserve some quiet consideration for being the seeds.

Daily Draw: Druidcraft Tarot ~ 8 of Cups

Think the eclipse made him flee from or run toward?

The Cups would have us acknowledge the truths of the Swords without blame laying. Or going into full denial. Tall order.

Daily Draw: Spiral Tarot ~ Hermit

Drawn as Vesta, she shows the way to self-sufficiency and self-reliance.

I'm reminded by this upheld lantern, of all the Hermits contained in this blog, and how few of them 'light the way' for anyone but themselves.

Daily Draw: Spiral Tarot ~ 7 of Swords

Daring, undercover, impulsive, detective style actions.
To view this character as just 'sneaky' limits us from grasping both sides of the story.

Are traitors also heros? Of course, depending on which side has them. Turncoats, or just someone coming to their senses? Who decides who our 'enemy' is? Those with a hand glued to the cookie jar.  Even the worst of the worst in my personal experience, traitor to me, certainly aren't seen as traitors to the someone else. Dizzy-making thoughts, good to chew over in the course of my day.

Is Mt. Rushmore a travesty or America's greatest monument? Is it art or is it all ego? Do a few chips of rock matter to the mountain? I'd consider those behind the creation to be traitors to ecology and nature. Do those hordes who stop to view it and buy a bucket of China made souvenirs from the gift shop ever think "why? what were they thinking?".

Move It Or Lose It

Daily Draw: Spiral Tarot ~ 4 of Cups

I wish I was anywhere but here
I'm so homesick I could cry
What was I thinking
I thought this was going to be more fun
I'll wait ten more minutes, no more
Pounds mouse like that will help
I'll wait ten more minutes...

Any number of moods or situations can trigger this feeling. The cup we have our back to promises, as always, good bad or indifferent, this too will change.  What we do with those minutes while we are waiting, is what makes or breaks the value of our day. Move it or lose it...

I'm waiting for deck photos to upload to eBay...tick tick tick. I could shoot my internet connection in the eye. Playing with my kittens will be better use of time.

Quick Enough

Daily Draw: Spiral Tarot ~ High Priestess

"A fire burns in Sybil's tripod where she sees the Fool's past,  present, future." Steventon

'Past Present Future' is a common quick spread for a reading
along with 'Wants-Bridge-Needs', 'Don't do-Do do', (I did that one once before I drove over to the casino for lunch, don't gamble was the answer). 'Advice-Outcome-Solution' is another, 'Problem-What hinders-What helps' is a good one.

There are still fortune tellers around, always will be I expect; people want to believe someone can tell if there is a dark handsome cab driver in their future. If someone could really tell the future they'd be lottery winners rather than eking out a living in a dingy storefront.

I prefer the queries like above, using the cards to work out a clearer or different viewpoint toward understanding ourselves. Whatever the future holds will get here quick enough.

Most people who wouldn't touch the cards with a ten foot pole, have probably done all this type of readings, they have just done it with paper pencil, and pros and cons. Not nearly as much fun though.

Daily Draw: Spiral Tarot ~ 3 of Wands

Opportunity to expand.

In business I was too cheap or too scared to expand
In a good marriage love always expands
Paperwork will expand to fill the space it is in
Tasks take all the time on offer

I'd like to expand my brain power
I'd like to expand how long kittens stay kittens.

Daily Draw: Spiral Tarot ~ Hanged Man

Suspended in time.

Spring days, stuck in classroom
Stuck in traffic.
Stuck in traffic behind a silage wagon
It is all relative isn't it

In The Back

Daily Draw: Spiral Tarot ~ 10 of Swords

Many versions of this card have the figure face down on the ground and the swords give the appearance of having fallen out of a sword tree, wrong place at the wrong time. This figure is running, and the swords are being thrown from behind her back.

Why do we hurt the ones we love the most?

ByeBye 365

Daily Draw: Tarocco Piemontese ~ Ace of Swords

With the Aces we have the complete potential of the suit unknown. Loss and gain, pain and healing, action and inaction, remembrance and forgetting.

I'm reminded by this card, this last week I've been doing clean-up for the 365 quilt, nothing left but the hand assembly. Breaking down the scraps, refolding and putting away the larger pieces of fabric.

Scrubbing off the cutting table, cleaning the millions of thread ends from everywhere, emptying the ort jar, giving the sewing machine a good going over and new needle, running the vacuum, washing the ironing board cover, cleaning the iron soleplate, rolling the lint roller over the working wall, putting a new rotary cutter blade in, filling bobbins...

All of this ending makes room for the beginning Ace, a recycled shirts quilt. Deboning the  clean shirts of their seams buttons pockets, collars, cuffs (Goodwill Outlet Store dollar a pound). Neatly folded into color families, pulling back out the shades I want (blue orange yellow black) starching cutting...
Every ending is a beginning, just the way I like it.

In For A Penny

Daily Draw: Tarocco Piemotese ~ Ace of Coins

Do you pick up pennies?  Some throw them on the floor or ground when gotten in change. My nation has debated removing them from circulation, I understand they are more expensive to mint than their actual monetary value.

I'm reminded by this coin my search for Alessandro Viassone led me circuitously around the net, finally deviously depositing me at Ebay thinking about putting Minchiate decks on my watch list. I snatched my one acquisitive brain cell back from the brink in time to regain my senses, having learned little about Viassone and having misspent my meager pennies worth of online time foolishly.

And yes, I always pick up a penny.

Daylight is Burning...

Daily Draw: Tarocco Piemotese ~ 6 of Swords

Moving on, for better or worse. I have a bright orange tabby kitten in my lap and a long hair tortoiseshell kitten on my shoulder. I'm still in my jammies, physical comfort food. My morning cuppa is in a favorite mug, although a tiny torty kitten with great big feet has been in it...I just made my final goodbye post to my closing tarot forum.

I'm in the boat, I'm moving to a new tarot home. I've bumped against the shore at Tarot, Tea, and Me. I'm out of the boat. Enough drama queen, daylight is burning, get on with it.

Just Wondering

Daily Draw: Tarocco Piemontese ~ Knight of Coins

Ready to go forward with talent and experience.

I'm reminded by this card to wonder just how many people go forward based on their first paycheck job? Danny started as a grocery box boy, worked up to produce manager, and on to store manager, where he retired, from the same store that provided his first paycheck.

I moved from coffee shop waitress at that same store, to a more upscale restaurant, to a really nice Armenian restaurant when we moved to Portland, then to one owned by Lebanese.  I thought working for both families as pretty exotic. I wonder if I'd even apply today. Is my mind permanently bent from world news?

Daily Draw: Tarocco Piemontese ~ King of Cups

"I am the active spirit of this suit, having gained the mastery and use of emotional energies" Signe Echols

How many ways have I epitomized this King lately?
Kitten Kiwi dies of seizures. Lost it
Last uncle dies who was always a favorite person. Keeping it cool, at least until the military service Friday. Up in the air.
Had opportunities to help neighbors, provided cheerfully with gratitude for good people on both sides of us. Win
MIL was in the hospital, no one told us, we didn't butt in when we were told. Win

I'm reminded by this card humans are emotional creatures. Containing and directing that force is an everyday task. Always has been always will be.

"Emotion turning back on itself, and not leading on to thought or action, is the element of madness." ~ John Sterling

The Degree

Daily Draw: Tarocco Piemotese ~ 10 of Swords

It is all in the degree, isn't it? If you are painting and step in the roller tray, that could be a 10.  Certainly, swear worthy, but not the tower.

This card makes me wonder at what point does it become more than a 10 and segue into the Majors territory.
Stepping into the tray, slipping, and breaking a leg?
Find baby sipping from the paint tray?
Find you are a pint short of paint? And it is an hour drive to the store?
The spouse comes home and pitches a regular shite storm about the mess, which becomes about dinner three weeks ago, which leads to were you flirting at the last party. I think we've passed 10...

No Regrets

Daily Draw: Tarocco Piemontese ~ 9 of Wands

Carrying forward the choices we've made in the 8 of Wands position. I'm going to be a teacher when I grow up doesn't cut it, serious and long term practical applications are required now.

I'm reminded by this card long term planning is a class I missed. I've made my life affecting decisions on the fly. Can't say I regret them, but I missed a lot which is only visible and calculable at the 9 of Wands.

"Growth in wisdom may be exactly measured by the decrease in bitterness." ~ Friedrich Nietzsche 1844-1900

Thought To Action

Daily Draw: Animals Divine Tarot ~ 7 of Swords

Futility, time to reevaluate priorities.

I'm reminded by this card of when I used to say (and believe) we couldn't possibly afford a house. My niece and nephew are at that line of thought now. I could help them move beyond that mindset given a month and their desire. I wish. We need these 7 swords to recognise where we are at and why we don't need to live here.

Shouldering Ganesha

Daily Draw: Animals Divine ~ High Priest

This iconic figure serves to thwart obstacles and give guidance. Come out come out where ever you are.

I'm reminded that he probably does; how many times does my mind say "umm, not the best idea" and I rush right on?
The pool table in our first apartment, with about two feet to spare on the long sides. I got pretty good at verticle cueing.
Buying the whole series of Supernatural. We made it through part of the first season of make a circle with salt set creature on fire. Snooze.

Those are pretty funny missteps and didn't break the bank, but really, what was I thinking?

Daily Draw: Animals Divine Tarot ~ Justice

Are we making the choices that will allow us to live a luminous life?

There were 101 shootings in one city in America this week. And the week isn't over. I have zero ideas, but Judgement and Justice obviously have no solutions either.

I'm reminded by this card of the early science fiction/end of the world books that scared me so badly. Basically that world is here, where the inner cities are left to sort out their own problems and everyone else runs away to gated communities.

Alas Poor Yorick

Daily Draw: Animals Divine Tarot ~ 2 of Wands

Call the Waaablance, my tarot forum is closing in a few days. What made AT great was the sheer volume of users, someone always had an answer or a question, an opinion or knowledge, and the good friends found there.

I'm reminded by these dragonflies there are lots of ponds in the world. The order of the day in my tiny pond has been do blog, read AT, read Quilting Board, tear into my day. While railing against the idea of routine, I have discovered my card and this routine sets the course of my day very nicely thank you. So I'll clack my two wands together while I think how to resourcefully change those morning minutes.

With or Without

Daily Draw: Animals Devine ~ Knight of Cup

Does our life flow, or jerk, bob, drag bottom, get caught in snags, drown a bit, and flow once again?  All of the above.

I'm reminded by this Knight how resilient human beings are. Bombs go off, bridges fall down, leaders go off the rails. It is the smallness of our individuality that protects us from the big things. Because life flows on, with or without us, over or under us.

Meaty Subject

Daily Draw: Animals Divine/Shakespeare Tarot ~ Ace of Swords

Mental expansion and enlightenment.

I'm reminded by this card of my current enterprise. the Shakespeare Tarot by Chris Leech.  About 10 years ago I purchased the entire works of Shakespeare annotated, and read it all. Not much is retained except the interest. Do click the link above and take a look.

I've been working with it for weeks and don't even have all the cards identified yet...that is how much fun this deck is. Easy isn't my cup of tea.

One Is A Lonely Number

Daily Draw: Animals Divine Tarot ~3 of Wands

Integration. Water and coffee. Leaves and trees. Numbers and totals.

I'm reminded by this card not much of our life is stand alone. What a sterile life it would be otherwise.

A good head and a good heart are always a formidable combination." ~ Nelson Mandela 1918-2013

Will You

Daily Draw: Animals Divine ~ Queen of Swords

Athena would have us consciously employ the left side of our brain, the analytical part. The part our parents meant when they used all manner of inflection to say "use your brain will you?".

I'm reminded by this card when I've pulled that response I've usually been thinking with my Cups brain or acting with my Wands brain, which means there is no one at the tiller. And age has zero to do with it, I'll still be oblivious to the need for the Queen of Swords when I'm old and gray.

"Negative thinking destroys your brain cells and causes global warming. ~  Teslovan Adrian

Daily Draw: Animals Divine Tarot ~ 8 of Cups

Eight arms. Short lifespan (2-5 years). What to pick and what to leave.

I'm reminded by this creature we probably don't remark on what worked out well, we quickly become accustomed, take it for granted. But the wrong pick...that burns our biscuits for a long time. We brood, are quick to anger and snap, get embarrassed if anyone brings it up, we try to walk away from the whole subject.

"Your longevity is stupidity if you were leading a worthless life." ~ Michael Bassey Johnson

Instinctual Moon

Daily Draw: Animals Divine Tarot ~ Moon

We can learn from books and observation, of both people and animals. Terms for animal behavior come as sly, or cunning, the dark side of the Moon. Yes they are, so would you be if you had to catch your breakfast on the fly. But they are funny, experience grief, and have inborn instincts that serve them all their days. I think modern humans begin to sluff off our instincts from the day we are born, big loss that.

All that said to say we adopted two new family members this week, Kiwi and Ash. Introducing Kiwi. They are busy teaching me things,
I've already learned to not roll around in my office chair.

"I'm standing on the moon, with nothing left to do, with a lonely view of heaven, but I'd rather be with you." ~ Grateful Dead  1989

Wednesday, June 28, 2017

Daily Draw: Animals Divine Tarot ~ 6 of Coins

Ripples of reciprocity spreading out from good works.

Bar none we live in the most generous country in the world.
Yet a proportion of people and/or their children keep trying to hide assets from the government so they don't have to pay their own way in senior care homes.

I'd gotten this far in my thoughts then closed my blog and went out to mow our lawn. (Seven+ miles of walking, now half finished).
I do not know why my mind always sees the dark side. Like newspapers, bad news is more interesting and sells more papers? But I'm not looking for eyeballs, I write my posts for me. Is this just a place to let out mental rants? If so that is a pretty stinky way to use my precious time.

I don't know where my blog is heading but I have four knee high stacks of decks I'm going to put up on ebay or amazon. Leaving me with the best of the cream of the best. Then perhaps my posts will also reflect the best of me.

Peace in Preparation

Daily Draw: New Earth Tarot ~ 4 of Swords

Rather than resting on his coffin lid our figure is peacefully working in an organized manner.

I'm reminded by this card to wonder how much our need for peace and rest is self-caused. If a big job is at hand and we have to keep running off for material and tools we forgot. If traveling we keep needing something we forgot at home.  If studying we find ourselves sidetracked by all manner of diversions.

"If our condition were truly happy, we would not seek diversion from it in order to make ourselves happy." ~ Blaise Pascal 1623-1662

New Age

Daily Draw: New Earth Tarot ~ 8 of Cups

Harmony and balance are being restored, rather than the standard slump-shouldered caped figure leaving the scene. The author/artist indicate this deck was created for the new age. 'New Age' is often a term said with sneering derision.

I'm reminded by this card of the people and movements I've encountered with a new age mindset. The people who embraced hippydom, with their let the world burn man mindset. Of the Peace Corp mindset who thought they were saving the world, one small country at a time.
What these groups birthed was today's green movement. Divided by the same two groups of the 70's. Stop progress at all costs, and let the earth burn man.

Get Over It

Daily Draw: Lover's Path Tarot ~ Prince of Cups

'A dreamer of happier places and times' Waldherr.

I'm reminded by this card today is the good old days.

A to Z

Daily Draw: Lover's Path Tarot ~ 10 of Wands/Staves

This fire, bright as the sun, signifies Siegfried and Brunnhilde's task to destroy Wotan's ring. The leaves signify the personal growth achieved following the path.

Many 10 of Wands portray the carriers back nearly bent double at this stage, and the Thoth system flat calls it oppression. I'm reminded by this card life isn't an A  to Z journey, many burdens we carry may be by choice and short term, but more I think are lifelong. And most are invisible and would be difficult to explain, so we don't. Here is a hug to all of us, for keeping on keeping on, there is hero in that stack of staves.

Around The Corner

Daily Draw: Lover's Path Tarot ~ Prince of Coins

Perseus, son of Danae and Zeus, whose claim to fame is slaying Medusa. Which made me wonder about Medusa...ahh, Greek myths, there is always another corner in the story.

Polydectes desired Perseus’ mother, sent Perseus to Medusa, to cut off her head. A fools suicide mission if there ever was one. Of course he was given magic cheats. While Medusa was simply in the wrong place at the wrong time (Poseidon, who desired her and ravaged her in Athena’s shrine. Which ticked off Athena and resulted in Medusa wearing snakes for curls)

I'm reminded by this beautiful young prince, the card might better be seen in reverse...he wanted the big bucks and used any means possible to get it. No doubt becoming an every day captain of industry.

Medusa? The winged horse Pegasus sprung out from her neck, the child of the Medusa and Poseidon coupling...making for more around the corner myths. Court cards, gotta love 'em.

Bowl and Spoon

Daily Draw: Lover's Path Tarot ~ Death/Transformation

Death is represented by the six months above, six months below solution to the Persephone/Pluto relationship. Persephone and her mother Demeter had no say in the arrangement, resulting in Demeter's angry penalty of six months of fallow earth while Persephone was in deep earth.

Can we make bargains with Death? Never. Modern medicine is as powerful as ancient god myths, but that won't put off the inevitable day for long.

If tomorrow was your day, what would you do with this one?
I'd like a bowl of soft ice cream maybe.

I've had a charmed life and would go without regret. My space is ready, the stone is in place, and I'd be with my parents and sister. What more could I ask for?

Golden Prison

Daily Draw: Lover's Path Tarot ~ 2 of Coins

Juggling important choices. Acrisius longed for a daughter but it was foretold if he had one, her children would cause his death.  His solution was keep the daughter but imprison her for life in a golden tower.

I'm reminded by this card twisting fact and fortune out of true isn't a solution but a prison of our own making.

"Gold is mined deep in the earth by poor men who then give it to rich men who immediately bury it back in the earth in great prisons, although gold hasn't done anything to them." ~ Mike Harding 1944-

Fertile Facts

 Daily Draw: Lover's Path Tarot ~ Empress/Fertility

We probably wouldn't know Cleopatra if it weren't for a couple of blockbuster movies. Did you know she was Greek? Egypt was a shambles (circa 50 BCE) and Rome was well on its way to being the world power.

I'm reminded by this card a fertility of facts + alternative facts gives us the option of choosing the ones we want to believe.

"I really don't remember much about Cleopatra. There were a lot of other things going on." ~ Elizabeth Taylor  1932 – 2011

What Were You Thinking?

Daily Draw: Lover's Path Tarot ~ 4 of Wands/Staves

Siegfried and Brunnhilde, blissful in love. More like blind in love, considering the nature of her husband Hunding. Run, Run!

I'm reminded by this card, stability is relative. And love really is blind, which is quite often a blessing and likely how marriages that manage to survive those first five years do so.

"Stability itself is nothing but a more sluggish motion”
 Michel de Montaigne ~ 1533-1592

Daily Draw: Shining Tribe Tarot ~ 4 of Stones

Do you know why most homes built are fairly close to the road? Because it is expensive to put in utilities. Close is a relative term, many homes in Europe have doors that open to the street. I've read in Italy when you move you take everything, including plumbing fixtures. How does an igloo stay warm? You fill it with people until you are so warm you have to go outside to cool off.

We can and do sleep and eat anywhere. I'm reminded by this card home is more about people than structure. When we are on the road homesick is the place we started from. When at that home homesick is usually the place we grew up. When I'm homesick I go to the cemetery.

"I never wanted to go away, and the hard part now is the leaving you all. I'm not afraid, but it seems as if I should be homesick for you even in heaven." ~ Louisa May Alcott 1832-1888

Daily Draw: Shining Tribe Tarot ~ Ace of Cups/Rivers

River land sky life. What more could we want?   To know where the river came from, what treasure the land holds, how the sky provides the clean breath for every living thing.

Pretty simple when reduced to the Aces. Life got complicated as each generation shared its accumulated knowledge with the one succeeding it. It is easy to remember back to the world my great-grandparents lived in, I knew them from my grandparent's stories. But 300 hundred years ago? 900 years ago? It is all caveman. Not really but we've complicated living nearly beyond coping with it. Why? When everything we need is contained in the Aces. Funny old world...

"I'm here to talk about Ancestral Knowledge and Thrumming Stone and potential ways to do ridiculous and embarrassingly complex things with the two of them in play at the same time.
Mmmm Endless ripple effects and the ability to stack an entire library in one turn... brilliant I say.. Brilliant!!" ~ shazbot on metagames

Daily Draw: Shining Tribe Tarot ~ High Priestess

Pollack: "She is in some ways the most powerful of the trumps, although she does nothing." She is the part of us that knows without learning.

I'm reminded by this card, I'd call that instinct and intuition. The things we know without knowing we know until we need the knowledge. Cool.

"The only true wisdom is in knowing you know nothing." ~ Socrates 470 BCE-399 BCE

Bête Noire

Daily Draw: Shining Tribe Tarot ~ Moon

Pollack's Hunter Moon pulls at the things that disturb us most. If I made a list where would unsavory characters or nightmares be rated? Which would be rated higher, dystopia or thoughts exposed?

I'm reminded by this card I've always rated nature number one, and the folk who inhabit earth at the bottom of how many numbers there are. Our current climate has me barely speaking or leaving the house. I hadn't realised it until my cousin inquired if I was alright. Not the same as black depression, but just as dangerous.

"If you're betwixt and between, trust the one with red hair." ~  O.R. Melling  The Hunter's Moon

Daily Draw: Shining Tribe Tarot ~ Queen of Cups/Gift of Rivers

The outer Queen and the inner Queen flow together to make a whole. Am I different in public? When do I tamp myself down?  Where am I when I let myself go?

I'm reminded by this card I wonder what I might have been had I been someone else somewhere else.

Soft Shrink

Daily Draw: Shining Tribe Tarot ~ 2 of Swords/Birds

Do you believe the theory people who bother you reflect your own qualities? I was told that once by the person who irritated me the most of anyone I've ever met.

I'm reminded by this card I think the idea is worth considering if for no other reason than it makes us think about the why. A quick search show lots of pages that smell of soft shrink talk. I don't believe it...or can't...or won't.

"As blather becomes the nation's normal idiom, language becomes printed noise." ~ George F. Will 1941

Grain of Salt

Daily Draw: Shining Tribe Tarot ~ Queen of Coins

A personal cartouche of Pollack's trek to the Ġgantija Temples in Xagħra, Gozo. The central shapes being the view of the buildings from the air, and her connecting the site to the Queen. It is the little square altar upper right that interests me.  After a lengthy description how the five shells are related to her interpretations it is noted as 'left by a German woman named Eva'.

I'm reminded by this card I respect and value the world's ancient peoples thought and intent and action, known or not. But at what point does historical authority dip into well meaning speculation? Best to have a grain of salt handy. even if the word of the Queen is involved.

Daily Draw: Shining Tribe Tarot ~ 2 of Wands/Trees

"The trees form a gate to new experience" (Pollack)

The two of wands keeps telling me this. I have my eyebulbs peeled and a pocket full of change for the trolley. Taps fingernails on the desk. Perhaps my new experience is patience. Tough one.

"When someone is impatient and says, "I haven't got all day," I always wonder, How can that be? How can you not have all day?"
 George Carlin  1937-2008
